When I found a friend was pregnant, I knew right away I was going to knit her something. She and her husband had been trying to get pregnant for several years and they are both beyond ecstatic that they are now expecting their first. When she found out she was having a boy, I was determined to knit her something that was cute and boyish and hopefully sporty but on the edge of trendy.

I found these booties and I made the colors just a little different. I wanted them to look more like socks. Cute boyish, sporty socks. And they turned out PERFECT.

Baby Blue Booties

see bigger

and they go perfect with the stocking cap I knit too.

just admit it, you are swooning over the booties and hat

My most recent pairing is a simple blue and white. But I love it. And it will be perfect for a little boy due in August. I can’t wait to surprise his mom with it!

I’ve got loads and loads of yarn. My sister actually sent myself and our mom a box of random yarn and her crochet needles when we were interested in learning to crochet. I never learned, but I have decided that the yarn she sent is perfect yarn and needs to be used. No more letting it sit in the closet, I am on a mission to find projects and see how creative I can get while using up my yarn stash.

First project involved using 4 balls of Patons Soy Wool Stripes yarn. I loved it from first glance and knew I wanted to make something special.
First project was a mini cabled scarf.

Then I decided I need some fingerless gloves to match. So far I have one knit up but I will get the second one done in no time.

Next project is a Grumpasaurus. He was made from Brown Sheep’s Cotton Fleece. The colors I have wouldn’t work for my normal knitting projects, but I found the grumpasaurus pattern and knew this yarn was perfect. I still have to embroider his face, but he’s fun to play with right now.

I have a couple more toy animal projects I want to knit, but first I need to knit a stocking cap for part of a friends baby shower gift. Then it’s back to using up my yarn stash.

Knit out of a beautiful Patons Soy Wool Stripes yarn that I got from my wonderful sister. I should have enough for my 5ft scarf and the gloves.
No pattern is written out because it’s just a basic ribbed scarf with the basic forward cable down the middle.

I spent very little time on my knitting and photography this past week. But with good reason. I’ve spent the past week living in a surreal world where I lost a close friend. Between mourning, healing and giving my support and sympathy to her family, I haven’t had time or the energy for much else. Now that things have calmed down, I’ve picked up my knitting and my camera and it feels good. I finally updated my ravelry with pictures of these two projects:

I knitted this hat about a month ago. It started with a simple ribbed brim

and it turned into this soft and warm wool hat.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE how the colorway worked out with this yarn. It is simply divine.

And then I have this project:

This was my first time knitting with Malabrigo yarn. I was warned I would get addicted. I was told it is a knitter’s crack yarn. I didn’t believe the warnings but alas, I am ADDICTED. But I’m going to be good and I’m going to just indulge when I need a soft yarn fix. Or I’m going to avoid buying it at all costs until I get through the stash of yarn I currently have. Whichever comes first
Anyways….
I wanted to knit a newborn stocking cap with the malabrigo yarn. This is how the hat started out.

I was semi happy with how the colorway was working out. I was informed of the weird pooling that can come about while knitting with the yarn, so I was relieved to see that it was working out pretty well for this hat.
And this is how the finished hat looks.

I still can’t get over how soft the yarn knits up and I like how the hat turned out. It was a stocking hat that was kicking and screaming for a tassel instead of a pom-pom.

Now I need a new project. And I have no idea what I want to knit up….

I have a secret and I hate holding back secrets. I hate keeping things from friends. Especially important things, like love. I am in love…. with Malabrigo. Yes, blog readers, I am confessing my love to a skein of yarn by the name of Mr.Malabrigo. He refuses to tell me his first name, tells me I won’t love him enough and I’ll drop him at the first glance of another soft wool yarn. I found him at the local LYS (local yarn store for the knitting impaired), not fully ready to commit but just browsing around, just seeing what skeins caught my eye. And there he was. Just waiting for me…. and I’m glad I took the chance.

He is so soft. so beautiful and knits like a dream. I never want to go back to another yarn, but I musn’t be greedy with the Malabrigo. He will be saved for special occasions. He will be saved for when I want to knit a treat.

No… I won’t be greedy But tonight, I will stay up and cherish my time knitting with him. Because after this project, he will be stashed away… for another day.

I had been knitting for about a month and I needed a case for my small amount of double-pointed and circular needles. The only requirements were that it was stylish and would hold the needles well. It turned out perfect. Throughout the past few months I’ve managed to accrue quite a collection of dpns and circular needles. The roll case was only big enough to either hold half my dpns and none of my circular needles or all of my circular needles and none of my dpns. I decided another needle roll case was a top priority. So I went through my mom’s huge tub of fabric and found 4 fabric designs I liked. I made a pattern, cut out the fabric and then following my mom’s instructions, managed to sew it up within a couple hours.

This is the end result:

So now I have a roll case for my circular needles and a roll case for my dpns. And I love it. The colors are so bright and cheerful that I can’t help but smile when I see it. And every time I look at it or think about it, I want to make more.

I can see this turning into a very healthy addiction.
